soulstar: (Eleven - Timelords get lost too)
I know, I know, I haven't posted here for a miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiillion years. I've been mentally stuck trying to decide whether DW or LJ should be my primary journal (or whether I should just crosspost everything). I have been posting on the blog at though. I haven't been crossposting from the blog to DW & LJ, obviously, but there is now a feed account on DW ([syndicated profile] loopylou_feed ) as well as the one on LJ ([ profile] loopylou_co_uk ). So just in case you want to read my blogging adventures, which are about things like knitting, spinning, bipolar disorder, and general life ramblings, then... well, there are many ways to do so. Or, I don't know, should I just crosspost directly to this journal after all? I've always felt like I should keep the two separate, but maybe that's a hangover from when I worked in an office? Hmm. Opinions welcome! Heh, if there's even anyone still reading this thing.

What I've been thinking of using this journal* for is more fandom-y stuff. And I'm afraid that means the stuff that I'm watching, so if there are people reading, I give fair warning: I'll quite likely be whiffling on about Sparklytrictly Come Dancing and Holby / Casualty and Merlin and Sherlock (still) and Dr Who and whatever else may catch my fancy. Also, I want to actually write up the book reviews that are in my head. Shall I put them here or on the blog? I don't know. Maybe that's something that works for both. As for which is my main journal between DW and LJ, well, my subscription has run out on DW, and I still have the big flist on LJ, but DW is nicer... I'll decide another time.

At the moment I am doing NaBloPoMo over on my blog, so I don't know if / when I'll be posting here again. But I really really am going to try. I miss being in touch with my flist! Although talking of that, I think I may need to chop it down quite a lot so that I can actually keep up with the reading. Sometimes I wonder how I used to manage. Oh yes, that's right: I signed up for LJ a decade ago. I was young. That explains it all!

* These journals: I'd be crossposting, assuming posting to DW from SeMagic will do that, because posting in the web editor on DW is driving me MAD(der). This is my fourth attempt today, and it's not like it's a problem with the editor itself. I just keep accidentally losing the bleeping thing. Don't ask. Anyway, I need to post from a non-web interface.

It's carnival week again, and I'm excited. Whee! I know it's daft, but it does make me feel like I'm little again and it's the summer holidays. *g* Not only that, but the Olympics starts technically-today (I'm going to bed any minute, really), which for me mainly means the Ravelympics. Which is like its own Olympic Games, only for knitting! No, really. I'm going to be having lots of fun with it anyway, and it might make me actually sit and watch some of the actual Games on telly if I have something to occupy myself with knitting-wise at the same time.

Since multiple affiliations are allowed, I've signed up to be in Team TARDIS (duh), Team Dog, Chicken and Aardvark (AKA the Brighton & Hove (and surrounding E Sx) Safari Knitters), and Team Posh Knitters. The 'Events' I'm doing are WIP Wrestling (because my WIPs need wrestling into submission very very badly!) plus the Handspun Heptathlon for Team DCA (yes, I've started spindle spinning, but no, I don't have to do seven sub-events, it's just a catchy title) and the Amigurumi-n-Toys Toss for Team TARDIS during which I'm going to actually try to crochet an Adipose. Well, it's sposed to be a bit of a challenge, you see, so I thought trying two small projects in crafts that I'm a novice at would give me that and also give me a break from wrestling the WIPs so that doesn't get to feel like a chore. There's method in my madness! This time ;-)

Getting back to the carnival, there's been various events going on all week and I've been down to a couple. I got well and truly drenched last Sunday, going down to the gig in the Old Town - [ profile] elen_ancalima was visiting, so I was showing her the typical British summer seaside weekend ;-) Which of course includes sudden torrential rain! Anyway, I'm hoping to go down to a knitting exhibition thingy tomorrow afternoon, and of course to the main Carnival parade itself on Saturday.

Anyway, I think I'll wrap this up now and get to bed. Zzzz. With a bit of luck, it should crosspost to LJ*. However, I have now decided to change how this site works, so alterations to the look (as well as 'my end' of things) will be coming.... er.... some time this year? I have planning to do first! Night all.

* HAI LJ! Looks like that worked, then. Hoorah :-) So FYI that last para about the changes to "this" site actually apply to

soulstar: (Sleepy-peepy)
... because I'm still up, therefore it still is yesterday even though it's technically today now.  Or something.  I'm tired and confused, and I want some cheese.  I really am going to turn my poor computer off and go to bed shortly.

Haven't posted about Torchwood or Who yet (except to Twitter) - shall do so tomorrow I expect.  I needed some time to ponder, and make sure that I'd actually be coherent.

Um.  Oh yes - it snowed!  Earlier this week, I though I heard on the forecast that they were expecting snow, but then yesterday they just said there might be snow in Scotland, and possibly some "wintery showers".  Hah!  Three inches of snow later...  Which isn't a huge amount as such, but it's quite a bit more than none at all.  Still, I got lots of pretty photos for Project 365 when I was over at Mum's.  Hoorah!

I still want cheese.  Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese.

I spent most of yesterday making icons.  I meant to do other stuff, but time sort of slipped away from me, and now I have some Holby Blue ones and some Torchwood / Owen ones.  Kept me busy til the Torchwood finale... which I was quite unspoiled for, and which I shall talk about in another post :-)  Since I'm still awake, I thought I might as well post these now.  Anyway!

Mine all mine )

And some spare versions if anybody would like them.  Snip! )

If you want one of the ones I'd done for myself, feel free to ask and I can let you have a copy without my username on.  I'm too lazy to fiddle around now on the off-chance that someone besides me actually likes them ;-)

[insert dullest stream of consciousness post evah about why I'm not eating lunch, deleted for your sanity and mine]

Um.  Torchwood tonight.  Yay!  Ashes to Ashes tomorrow.  Which... I like, I really do.  But I don't love like I did Life on Mars.  Come back Sammy!  But I'm ♥-ing Ray more than ever before.  And, urgh, I still can't think of anything not-boring to write, so I'll shut up and go away now.  I think my brain is just having a bit of a coasting day today, because I swear I had all sorts of interesting and insightful stuff that I've been meaning to post.  It's just hiding somewhere at the back of my cerebellum.  Yep, that'll be it.

Or perhaps I'm just hungry?...
soulstar: (No no no ....the pub?)
So, I successfully did the Blogathon.  Go me!  And huuuuuuuuge thanks and hugs and all to my sponsors, among whom are [ profile] darlas_mom, [ profile] liek_omg_, [ profile] dioxin and [ profile] seeksadventure.  I raised a fabulous $199.66, or approximately £100.  Yay!

And as well as that, I even managed to write my first complete ficlet in just about forever in the course of the day.  It's a Doctor Who one, set at the end of (new) Season 3, and it's called Black, Gold and Red.  It was for [ profile] fandom_helps, so other than a read-through by [ profile] darlas_mom, it's pretty much unbeta-ed.  So if you notice anything glaringly awful.... :-)

In other exciting news, I'm going to the LoM Con organised by some of the The Railway Arms people, at the start of next month.  Wheee!  I can't wait :-D  I'm going to stay in the Manchester YHA, and then go and visit my friends in Hull for a couple of days afterwards as well.  But would you believe this - when I tried to get train tickets up to Hull last month so that I could meet [ profile] elen_ancalima and [ profile] clarey_h in York as well, the cheapest fare I could get was £90.  Ninety quid!  So funnily enough, I didn't go.  My train fare to Manchester and back?  £22.80.  Seriously, I can't even begin to comprehend how they work these things out.  Insane!

I have new hair.  Or specifically, newly coloured hair.  In a gorgeous aubergine shade that makes my pale pink and electric purple extensions look fantastic.  Whee!

Also, I hear that teh internets broke the other day because someone pulled the plug out.  Or their rabbit ate through the wire, or something.  I must confess that I totally didn't notice, because I was on Ravelry, which wasn't affected by the outage.  Do I lose at LJ now?

Aaaaaaaaaaaanyhow, back to the Blogathoning.  I'm about to post a Doctor Who ficlet on [ profile] fandom_helps, and I've also just made a looooong post on my blog talking about bipolar disorder and why I'm blogging for MDF.  Just in case you're interested ;-)
soulstar: (Head go boom)
Right then... after a week, I think I've finally achieved some degree of coherency.  How good was last week's Who?  Totally awesome, that's how.  Liek reallyreally etc (Spoilers for 3x11 (a teensy bit), 3x12, speculation for 3x13) )

And they should end the season just like this. )
soulstar: (Feeling lost)
  1. My lovely liek_omg_Noxie came to stay for a week and we did stuff like:
    • meander around the Old Town and shop and stuff;
    • have Sunday lunch with Ally, [ profile] ladymoonray and [ profile] tamaranth, then repair to the beach where Ally made me into beach art (which I am now suffering for, as I seem to have had a nasty allergic reaction to the feathers she stuck in my sandals, oops) and then go see PotC3 of which I will probably burble more in another post (in short: awesome! but also with the bitter-sweet.);
    • go to Brighton and shop in the Lanes;
    • go to the fabulous Tokio Hotel gig at the Islington Carling Academy which rocked like a very rocking rock gig with added hot boys, hoorah!;
    • watch Doctor Who (see below) and Holby Blue (police boyfriends!) and Life on Mars (the police boyfriends OTP!), but miss Dalziel and Pascoe (original police boyfriends!), oops;
    and all in all it was a very fast paced week!

  2. Doctor Who OMG *FLAIL* ahdfjshgasigfjhsklfjsdakljf!!!!!!!!!!!!ELEVENTY!!!!!!!!! etc etc etc and so on.  Seriously, hgfusjhfioasjfiodsj.  Can be no more coherent.  Except, oh yeah: *LOVELOVELOVE*.  Also, GUH.  (Possibly more on this to come if I can string something together without my brain shorting out.)

  3. I really want to write fic now.  A lot.  I have thoughts / bunnies tumbling around my head for LoM, PotC and now DW.  But no time to sit and write, waaah!  Unless I try in the back of the car tomorrow and Tuesday.  But I've also been having that problem where I have the ideas, but getting them out of my head and down into story form is just hard.  Bad brain, behave better.

  4. There is no number 4 (those from the beach on Sunday should know what that means) *g*

  5. My insurance thingy from the car accident back in December has been settled (the person who hit me and the other car is, amazingly, officially fully responsible) so I should be getting the payment through soon.  This is a big relief, cos it means I'll be able to pay the rent I owe, and so on.  Debt cancellation = yay.

  6. My aunt Mary died.  She was one of my Dad's older sisters, one of the mad Irish twins, the one he was closest to.  She had cancer, we knew it was coming fairly soon, but then it happened even more quickly than expected.  Her heart gave way, having been weakened by a slight stroke from a while ago.  To be honest, that was probably the best thing, because the cancer was pretty horrible and painful for her.  She went peacefully, and even though I'll miss her and I wish I could have seen or at least spoken to her again, I love her and I'm glad of that.  So I'm going to try to remember her as she was: a wonderfully eccentric and energetic lady.  And here's a photo of me and her at Christmas a few years ago, with her dogs Holly (curled up on the sofa) and Flame (the noble-looking but-really-naughty one *g*) cut because it's huuuuuge )
    She doesn't look 80-ish, does she?  Not that any of Dad's family have ever looked or acted their ages.  Hee :-)  So yes.  It's that spirit of... mischievousness that I want to remember.  And preferably keep alive.  It seems to run in the family anyway, and I think that's mostly a good thing.

  7. However, funerals, particularly since Dad's, make me cry my eyes out.  So I'm probably going to be in a bit of a state for the actual event.  :-/  I hate that.  I don't want to upset my poor cousin Ray even more with my own over-emotionalism.  Bottling it up's no good either, though.  Ah well, I expect I'll be OK.

  8. On the other hand, part of me is looking forward to seeing my cousins and my aunt Gladys again.  I wish we all lived a bit nearer each other and could get together more often.  The last few years, it's only been for 'family event' type things.  Still, at least Ray is moving back down here soon.  That'll be good.

  9. So tomorrow me, Mum and Martin are off up to Blackpool for the funeral on Tuesday morning.  Since I can't drive (I've been de-licensed due to my meds) I'm relegated to the back seat of the car, in charge of foodstuffs, knitting, reading pr0n the map if the non-driver wants a break, and (possibly) writing fic, while M and Mum do the driving.  Mostly M, or we won't be there for a week, as Mum hasn't driven any further than Eastbourne (about 20 miles max) since she started driving again, and is a bit intimidated by the thought of motorways and lorries.  This means she'll likely be going at 40mph in the slow lane... at which point I'll be laying down in the back seat and pretending not to be there at all ;-)  No, I'm sure she won't be that bad... she has no probs with going at 60 along the relevant bits of road to Battle and Eastbourne.  Anyway, the point is, going now, back Tuesday evening.

  10. TTFN.  *waves*

soulstar: (Silly)
So, I was sitting at my computer desk, waiting for some podcasts to transfer over onto my mp3 player, and sort of gazing vacantly into space while I did so.  Except, also sort of at the random stuff on my desk as well.  And, "Hey," my brain went, "I wonder if that would.... I could just... aha!  Ahahaha!  Now I must take photos and inflict them on the WORLD!"

And so, with many apologies from the part of me that knows this is very, very silly, Really Bad Pun Pictures presents:
The Darthlek! )

soulstar: (Hot Doctor)
Well, it turned out that my telly was extremely dead - I changed the plug fuse, and it made no difference.  And anyhow, I realised that there had been buzzing from the speakers even if nothing else was happening, so power was getting through.  Yup, it's had it.

Luckily, my brother still had his old 14" portable telly, and he said I can borrow it til I can afford to buy myself a new larger one.  Since he's now feeling somewhat better (he looks pretty scabby and pox-ridden, but he's not contagious any more) and wanted to get out of the house, he and his gf brought it round today.  So wheeee, I got to watch Doctor Who without having to trek round anywhere. *g*  And I can watch the re-run of John Barrowman on the Jonathan Ross Show.  Awesome.  Actually, I might tape that, since I now even have my video player hooked up and tuned in.  Wow, the marvels of modern technology, hey?

DW 3x07 - 42 )
soulstar: (Gay Boy Sciencist Ten)
I still have issues calling this "season 3".  I'm such a nerdy fangirl, I know, but I really feel it should be either using the accurate season number, or be 10th Doctor S2.  Nerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrd.

But anyway )
soulstar: (Hee!)
My little brother is in the local paper this week.  No, not for anything Bad and Wrong.  But for the mini-documentary he did for his degree course, Jedi By The Sea - he was producer and co-editor.  His is the only name given (it actually says him "and four other students"), maybe because he was mostly in charge of sorting it all out - the uni rang him about the paper thing, anyway, and I'm not sure if they did any of the others.  They want to use the film / him / them for the uni prospectus / publicity stuff, too. :-D  Anyway, you should totally all go and watch and have a giggle, and if you can find the time, sign up to the FourDocs site to rate it.

Next year, when they have a proper studio at the uni (it's being built over the summer, apparently), he's intending to do something set in the 70's.  And while quizzing my Mum for set dressing ideas, she realised that as well as having various pairs of curtains and so on still knocking about (and hey, I hope she's still got the light fittings that she only just changed), our lovely lime-green - alright Mum, chartreuse - classic 70's kitchen cabinets are still in use in one of my Dad's sheds at the bottom of the orchard.  Hee!

In other news, I've mainly missed the last few weeks, but I think it's getting better now.  Oh, the joy of getting used to new meds!  And, you know, the old pit of dooooom thing.  Well, bah to that.  Pfft, depression: it's so 1930's.  Or something.  Anyway I'm feeling lots better, just conking out a lot, and as I say, that is improving.  Would be nice if it would hurry up a bit more, but you know.  Such is life!

And in the meantime, I'm binging on podcasts.  So, rec me some?  Good music ones, perhaps, or something you think I might be otherwise interested in?  Are there fandom related ones?  Um?  Help me, flist!  Feeeeeeeeed meeeeeeeeeee (and my mp3 player)!

Finally..... Doctor Who: bweeeeeee!  Life on Mars: BWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!  And there shall be (hopefully) more coherency and detail on at least one of those sometime later.  Yesyes.  But right now, I'm off to knit some more sock.  It's nearly heel time.  I should come back and post some pics of that, too.  Maybe. :-)
soulstar: (Love & laughter)
Just dropping by to say HAPPY NEW YEAR!  I'm having a quiet one - I vegged in front of the telly, knitting and watching the Hootenanny.  Yes, I know, aren't I boring?  I think I did this last year too, actually.  Clara and Chaz don't seem to be doing their New Year get-together now they have little Michael - maybe next year I'll do one.  But this is nice and relaxing too :-)

Since I haven't posted since then, Christmas was good.  I didn't get any decorations up here, but I have displayed my cards - thank you [ profile] tamaranth (and for the awesome CD! Hee!!), [ profile] train_in_vain, [ profile] urbanfae (and for the PRESSIES! *love*), [ profile] sanda56 and [ profile] elen_ancalimaPresents, blah blah )

So, here's hoping that 2007 is a good one! (Must think up some resolutions!  But for now, I'm off to bed.)

soulstar: (Whoo! Yay!)
(Because I am nothing if not creative and non-literal in my subject lines.  And matching post icons. Yup.)

So, if yesterday was getting it all off my chest, I've decided that today shall be about the nice shiny things.

  • OK!  There might still be some work to be done, but I'm getting to move into a newly refurbished flat that has new kitchen and bathroom suites, new double glazing, new boiler and central heating, new door entry system, new fire / smoke alarms, is newly carpeted and painted, and is generally all pretty damn new.  Other than being in a converted Victorian house, of course! *g*

  • Plus, the communal areas (that's the hall & front door, to you and me) are also being refurbished.  Hoorah!

  • I spoke to my lovelynice phone company, and yes, no problem, they're going to keep my phone line running to my old flat until 9th Jan so that I can run the extension lead to the new one (as I am doing now, in fact, in this temp flat), thus giving me an uninterrupted phone service.  Well, maybe there will be an hour or two, but you get the point.  I shan't be phone-less!  Broadband isn't quite that simple - I'm not going to go into that because it doesn't fall under the category of 'yay' - but I will have it for a few more days before the changeover period kicks in.  But I'll still have dial-up (this reminds me of my brother staring at the back of my 'puter the other day, looking like nothing so much as an archaeologist who's just unearthed something old, slightly unexpected, but interesting, and saying "you still have a dial-up modem in there??"  Yes, M, and it's for emergencies just like this!) so yay to that!

  • Char got us tickets for Wicked! next Thursday for my Christmas pressie.  Wheeeee!!

  • And speaking of Christmas pressies:  From the gorgeous desktop wallpaper [ profile] legoline made me, to the Real Actual Stuff [ profile] urbanfae sent (my Mum has it to wrap - wheee, surprises!), I'm chuffed beyond words about everything I've received. *beams*  And now the even more fun part (no, I'm not being sarcastic) - the getting of pressies for everyone else.  I have a couple of things for you guys, and I've got most of the rest of my things for the local friends and family.  What I don't have yet, I have planned.  *bounce*

  • My hair colour.  I still have plans for it, but a nurse at the hospital on Wednesday actually came in to the room to tell me she loved it, and ask where / how it was done (DIY "LIVE colour", love!) and then on Friday, while I was down town browsing in a Shop of Awesome Tat, a little old lady accidentally stroked my hair because she was going along stroking all the things on the clothing rails that she thought looked pretty.  And, um, mistook me for something that was for sale? O.o  To be fair, I had my back to her, and my hair was loose and therefore covering most of my back.  However, she then went "Oh! Oh, sorry, I didn't realise you were... but isn't it pretty?" And stroked my hair some more.  LOL!

  • SGA.  I just have so much love right now, and I'm very very happy in my fannish bubble.  (Can't touch this (breakitdown)).  And other assorted fandoms, of course - Torchwood, Who and LoM, I'm looking at you.  You're cracked in the head (like me), and I love you.

  • The Thing wot I'm doing with liek_omg_Sann.  Oh, we're having fun.  (We are having fun, right? *g*)

  • Knitting!  I'm making a little jumper at the moment, and I'm on course to get it all done in time for Christmas, along with a couple of other things.  I really do love physically creating things - I mean, I love designing websites, and writing, and singing and playing instruments and all that other "creative" stuff.  But I'm ending up with a physical object here that I can give to someone and have them know that I put time and effort and thought into it.  Or, you know, I can make something for myself and have that kind of satisfaction.  Also, I can do it while I'm watching TV (or other media).  Double bonus!!

soulstar: (Smugmog)
I got an Easter egg.  Yay!  Not a Dalek one, a Mini-eggs one - yum!  Thanks Mum :-)

I'm a bit concerned about that pestmonster again.... he seems to be having problems with his back left leg.  If it hasn't improved by Tuesday, I spose it'll be back to the vet.  Trouble is, being a most unnatural beast, he doesn't complain verbally if something hurts him.  Most cats, if they've got a sore leg, will yowl at you if you poke it.  The other day, I stood right on Xander's tail - with the ball of my foot, not just my toe or anything - for maybe 30 seconds before I realised.  He just sat there and looked up and me enquiringly.  *sigh*

I'm sure there was something else I was going to say.  Erm. .............. oh yes!  DOCTOR WHO OMG!!!!!!!!!!!  Hee :-)  Can't be bothered to be much more coherent than that.  There were a couple of things that made me go 'oh dear', but I did love it.  Hooray!

Right then, I'm off to do some fic-related stuff.
