soulstar: (No no no ....the pub?)
So, I successfully did the Blogathon.  Go me!  And huuuuuuuuge thanks and hugs and all to my sponsors, among whom are [livejournal.com profile] darlas_mom, [livejournal.com profile] liek_omg_, [livejournal.com profile] dioxin and [livejournal.com profile] seeksadventure.  I raised a fabulous $199.66, or approximately £100.  Yay!

And as well as that, I even managed to write my first complete ficlet in just about forever in the course of the day.  It's a Doctor Who one, set at the end of (new) Season 3, and it's called Black, Gold and Red.  It was for [livejournal.com profile] fandom_helps, so other than a read-through by [livejournal.com profile] darlas_mom, it's pretty much unbeta-ed.  So if you notice anything glaringly awful.... :-)

In other exciting news, I'm going to the LoM Con organised by some of the The Railway Arms people, at the start of next month.  Wheee!  I can't wait :-D  I'm going to stay in the Manchester YHA, and then go and visit my friends in Hull for a couple of days afterwards as well.  But would you believe this - when I tried to get train tickets up to Hull last month so that I could meet [livejournal.com profile] elen_ancalima and [livejournal.com profile] clarey_h in York as well, the cheapest fare I could get was £90.  Ninety quid!  So funnily enough, I didn't go.  My train fare to Manchester and back?  £22.80.  Seriously, I can't even begin to comprehend how they work these things out.  Insane!

Aubergine!

I have new hair.  Or specifically, newly coloured hair.  In a gorgeous aubergine shade that makes my pale pink and electric purple extensions look fantastic.  Whee!

Also, I hear that teh internets broke the other day because someone pulled the plug out.  Or their rabbit ate through the wire, or something.  I must confess that I totally didn't notice, because I was on Ravelry, which wasn't affected by the outage.  Do I lose at LJ now?

Aaaaaaaaaaaanyhow, back to the Blogathoning.  I'm about to post a Doctor Who ficlet on [livejournal.com profile] fandom_helps, and I've also just made a looooong post on my blog talking about bipolar disorder and why I'm blogging for MDF.  Just in case you're interested ;-)
soulstar: (Head go boom)
Right then... after a week, I think I've finally achieved some degree of coherency.  How good was last week's Who?  Totally awesome, that's how.  Liek reallyreally etc (Spoilers for 3x11 (a teensy bit), 3x12, speculation for 3x13) )

And they should end the season just like this. )

I've finally finished a fic.  *gasp*  So here we have my first Life on Mars effort.  Be nice (or, you know, if it's crap, tell me) ;-)

TITLE: Tigers on Vaseline
AUTHOR: Soulstarsinger (soulstar[at]freaky.nu)
FANDOM: Life on Mars
RATING: PG
SPOILERS: Only very vaguely for season one - nothing specific.
DISCLAIMER: Not mine, more's the pity. Sam, Gene, & Life on Mars in general belong to Kudos and The Beeb.
NOTE: The title is a line from Hang onto Yourself by David Bowie (Ziggy Stardust, 1972).
Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] liek_omg_ and [livejournal.com profile] clarey_h for their invaluable beta help.
SUMMARY: Who is Sam Tyler really? Gene has his very own theory...

(Follow the fake cut)
soulstar: (ARGH!!!1!!)
My broadband connection is down (some problem at my ISP's end that they're "working very hard on"), so I'm online via dial-up.  Wah!  Which means that I'm only zooming through, and now that I've grabbed my email, I'll be dropping back offline again.  Am hoping my proper connection will be back soon!  Grr.

I should probably use this offline time to finish editing my Life on Mars fic so that's it's finally post-able.  But then other people will see it!  Oh noes!  Lalalala, avoidance!  (Yes, I'll pull myself together and get it done in a minute.  I'm just having a idiotic five years minutes.  Don't mind me.)

And because I've really done sod all today, have a meme:

Swiped from [livejournal.com profile] kabukivice

Which of my icons:

1. is your favorite and why?
2. is your least favorite and why?
3. would you like some context for?
4. have you never noticed I even had before?
5. do you most associate with me?

... and I guess that's all from Post Every Day Week.  It was worryingly easy to post random crap every day!  I might even keep it up without having the meme as an excuse.  Well, maybe.  But I think I probably will start posting more frequently again.  It's been fun! :-)  Especially seeing regular posts from the others on my flist who were doing it too.
soulstar: (Post every day week)
Today I have....

  • Sorted out a load of recycling and put the bins out.

  • Remembered to send back the fic that I'd betaed (duh, that part generally helps).

  • Spoken to the DEA person and arranged to get a form to register for permitted work.

  • Spoken to Craig and sorted out about future work stuff.

  • Knitted another section of one scarf that I'm doing, decided to scrap the scarf I've been making for my aunt Mary (in the yarn that the 80's threw up on) and chosen which yarn to use instead.

  • Burnt Lost 2.15 & 2.16 to disc for my brother.

  • Plotted out my fic for the LoM Ficathon.  Well, I say "plotted"....

  • Refrained from taking a sledgehammer to the bloody boiler.  Because I don't have a sledgehammer.  *sigh*

And finally, have a meme:

If my life were a high-concept movie, it would be Every Which Way But Loose (1978) meets The Sound of Music (1965).

Take the What Is Your High-Concept Movie? quiz.

soulstar: (Post every day week)
(forgot to actually post this yesterday, d'oh!)

  • Sorted out the rubbish for putting outside and cleaned the kitchen bin (wow, exciting)

  • Edited fic some more... nearly there now, I think!

  • Received box of inexplicable size with computer bits in it (see below)

  • Generally faffed about, apparently.  Ooops

So, I got the bits for my computer that I'd ordered.  Namely, a new harddrive (80Gb), a 4 port USB hub (about the size of the palm of my hand), a pen drive (v ickle), a spare USB cable so I can hook my printer up without having to go via the dinosaur of a scanner, and a spindle of 100 blank CDs.  photographic evidence )
soulstar: (Louberry)
So, today I have:

  • Done all the washing up

  • Edited my LoM fic and sent it back for beta (again!)

  • Started beta-ing for [livejournal.com profile] elen_ancalima

  • Got up to date with my flist (what?  it's an accomplishment!)

  • Phoned the DEA bloke for an appointment (am now waiting for him to call me back... must remember to ring again if he doesn't get back to me tomorrow)

  • Cooked myself a proper dinner for a change

  • Started to sort out the tall wobbly pile of books beside my bed

  • Cleaned the big kitchen bin so I can use it for the recycling

That'll do for now.

Pimp!

soulstar: (Word in your ear)
Just thought I'd pimp the Life On Mars Ficathon 2006.  Because the more people sign up for it, the better.  Yes, I have.  Go on, you know you want to.

Meanwhile, the fic that I mentioned writing (and asked for which-bit-to-write help on) the other day is still in progress.  Probably will be for a while yet because it's got quite long.  I have a shorter one as well, though.  I'm going to concentrate on that for a bit and see if I can actually get it finished soon.  Won't that be a turn up for the books?

New Fic LJ

Mar. 24th, 2006 06:41 am
soulstar: (Smugmog)
You're probably going to wonder what the point of this is, since I haven't written anything (that anyone much has seen) for so long.  Buuuut, I have a new LJ for my fanfic: [livejournal.com profile] soulstarsinger.  This is to replace the old one because I wanted to change the journal name, but wasn't going to pay to transfer it over since it's a free account in the first place.

I've also revamped my fic site, so it now uses eFiction.  Um, because I wanted to.  I'm sure it's not remotely more practical in the long run or anything.  But it's fun to play with. :-)  Anyway, it has a new design as well.  Shiny.  Well, sort of.

So there you have it: new lj, new site design, and new fic to come.  In fact, I should probably post the one fic that I have finished in the last year or so.  Yeah, I'll do that.
soulstar: (Tied up)
So, I mentioned the other day that I've started writing fic again (don't worry, you don't have to read it), which has all been fun and yay.  But now I'm stuck.  I have four things in my head at once (scenes from different parts of this fic), and I can't settle on any one of them to get it written before I move on to one of the others.  I keep writing a line of one scene, then jumping off to another part altogether.  I need to decide on one and stick with it.  But I can't.  So, I'm abdicating all responsibility: it's now down to you.  Choose one at random, and I'll do as I'm told.  For once *g*.  Help meeeeee?

[Poll #688693]

Ta! :-)
(And now I can go to bed.  Zzzz.)
soulstar: (Working)
I should be working.  I should be writing a really easy javascript rollover for this client's site.  It will take me all of 5 mins.  I like writing code.

I'm not doing it.

I'm kind of writing fic instead.  Well, not "kind of".  I am.  Bad Lou.  I ought to leave the fic writing til later.  Fic = no money.  Website = yay money!  Plus, the fic is probably a load of rubbish, and the site is looking fairly OK.  And EARNS ME MONEY.  Come on, self, get motivated.

I spose the trouble is, it's so nice to be able to write again (both fictionally and factually - note me actually posting here again after months of silence) that I don't want to stop.  My words came back, and I want to use them, damnit.  And since tons of ideas turned up alongside the words.... yeah.  Writey McWrite.

In other news (See The Mighty Lou Procrastinate for England!):
  • One of our dustbins returned as mysteriously as it had vanished.  No sign of the other one, though.  And the Letting Agent surprised me slightly by offering to ask the Landlord if he'd buy replacements even though the dustbins "weren't on the inventory".  Well of course they bloody weren't: they're outside!  The inventory was only of things in the flat.  Which was, um, nothing other than the carpets, kitchen cabinets, and built-in oven.  But anyway.  He won't buy a new one, I'm sure, but at least they offered to ask.  Heh.

  • Rang the DVLA (again) to check on the progress of getting-my-driving-licence-back.  After I'd had the authorisation form from my doctor, I rang the clinic on the Monday and spoke to my doctor's secretary.  She told me to include a letter to the doctor when I sent the form back.  So I did, and a couple of days later he called me to see how I was doing (I'd told him in the letter, but someone else could have written that for me, after all) as he was filling out the medical questionnaire then.  So, he now has it from me that I'm not having the sleeping probs any more, and presumably the questionnaire was sent back to the DVLA not long after that.  Which would have been around 24th Feb, let's say.  However, the DVLA haven't "officially received" it yet.  Because according to the chap I spoke to yesterday, it can take them up to three weeks - let me say that again in case you missed it: three weeks - to "process mail and enter it into the system" once it's physically arrived, and until they've done that, it doesn't count as having been received.

*HEADDESK*  I just have no more words.  I have an acronym, though: FFS.  *sigh*

Alright.  Must stop with the procrastination now.  Work!  Money!!  Yaaaaaaaaay!!!  (Wow, and that almost worked, as well...)
