Things done on Friday

  • Been to the sorting office to pick up a packet that needed signing for... and discovered it was the photos from [livejournal.com profile] thewatch - ta! :-D

  • Took said photos over to Mum's and left them there for el bro.  Duly admired (and dodged) newly done paintwork, and ooo-ed over baby lettuce and tomato plants (small stalks with leaves on top. very nice I'm sure).

  • Had a highly amusing time in Sainsbury's.  Shopping while slightly manic?  Much more fun.  Because you can add trolley sound-effects out loud without caring.  Brrrrrrrrm brrrrrrrm brrrrrrrrrrrrrrm!  Bought too much interesting salad (still manic).

  • Burned Lost 2.17 & 18 to disc.

  • Tried to fix the hall lightswitch more securely to the wall.  Failed, because the wall is kinda crumbly and not inclined to provide much grip for the rawlplugs.  Oh well.

  • Called the Yorkshire Building Society and discovered that I've either got to go to Eastbourne, or write to them, to do a transfer from one account to the other.  Ho hum.

  • Called Scottish Power and got the sudden and bizarre electricity bill they'd sent me (I have a pre-payment meter!) sorted out.

  • Called the dentist, and was told to call back in three weeks.  Again.  *headdesk*

  • Printed off the rest of the course material for my OU course.

  • Had toast for breakfast!  (I keep forgetting to record my breakfasts, and it is an integral part of PEDW, after all!)

  • Realised that my cat disciplining skills are completely rubbish:
    Xander: *plays up*
Me: Argh!  I'm going to BEAT YOU!!!! *takes single step towards him*
Xander: *flees in abject terror and hides under the bed... for 30 seconds*
Me: *goes back to what I was doing*
    Xander: *emerges, plays up*
    Me: Argh!!!  (....rinse and repeat)

And now I'm going to.... to.... have a go at editing that damn fic, I expect.  Oh, no!  I know: I'm going to answer emails.  That's a good idea.  I'll do that, then.

Is that your fic for the ficathon? I have an idea for mine but I have yet to have a go at writing it.

No, it's another one that I've nearly finished now. Well, I've finished it as such, but now my friend has beta-ed it to death for me (the way I like it!) it needs some edits :-)

To my huge relief, I got an assignment for the ficathon that I had a pretty clear idea for. I've planned it out, and written a snippet of the scene that grew into the idea for the whole thing. We've got plenty of time, though :-) Although, I am beginning to think that I might be finishing something before its deadline for the first time in my life!

That's good about the ficathon. I had one of the three that was glaringly obvious in topic, but I didn't like the ideas it was kicking up, so I started to think on one of the other ones and I've got a story in my mind that I'm quite happy with - more thinking is required but so far it's funny and quite sad which is what I wanted. I won't say too much about it cos it's still early days but it frees me up by having two character you wouldn't normally put together (one you can guess) out of the police world environment so I can be a bit more creative. Also I don't have to do much research.

I just hope I can deliver it now and capture the idea.

Ah, yeah, I know what you mean - there were a couple I was going to request, then when I thought about the ideas I actually had for them, I wasn't keen.

I am actually a little worried about how mine will turn out - the idea I've got for it seems to be very obvious to me from what the request is... it starts out with angst and freaking out (that's easy!), but then moves on to slashiness. I've never actually written anything that's done more than fade to black, before. But Sam and Gene are making me do it! It's all them, really....

(Btw, I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours - the request / prompt, that is. I'm looking to see what you come up with for the fic, though, cos it sounds intriguing!)

[identity profile] clarey-h.livejournal.com 2006-04-08 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
the idea I've got for it seems to be very obvious to me from what the request is...

That's why I've gone for the more challenging option at first glance - but it's better I think.

Btw, I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours

Okay - the obvious one which I didn't go for was called "Chris's Big Day Out" and was a Sam/Gene thing. I thought that's more or less what I'm doing in Chris's journal.

Instead I'm going to try to do another one about Annie in a missing scene from Episode Four. Lets just say it's told from Chris's point of view and well Annie isn't a happy bunny!

I might still change my mind though.

Your turn!

That's why I've gone for the more challenging option at first glance - but it's better I think.

This one is the more challenging, for me. I think! It perhaps doesn't give me very detailed plot ideas, but it'll be interesting anyway. The requests I got were:
First Request: Sam/Gene,Sam's flat,slash please
Second Request: Sam/Gene, lost and found, drink
Preferences/Restrictions: No test card girl thats all

So I'm going for the second one, and actually using the 'no test card girl' as a bit of a plot point to get it started off. (I'm hoping the person just doesn't want her appearing, and isn't allergic to *any* mention of her!!)

The one you got was one of my choices, actually - the third, I think! I thought it sounded interesting, but didn't have any definite ideas, so I'm glad you got it :-) The Annie one from Chris' pov sounds like a brilliant idea, and I'd love to read it! Good luck with developing that.

(By the way, I'll screen these comments so that just the two of us can see them - I *think* we're sposed to keep it a secret who we're writing for until the list is done. Or is that just for the secret-santa type ficathons? I don't know. Just in case, anyway!)

[identity profile] clarey-h.livejournal.com 2006-04-08 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah - that will explain why two minutes ago I couldn't get on here!

Are they meant to be a secret cos what about betas and some of my best ideas have come out of bouncing ideas off others!
ext_58978: Cartoon me (Default)

[identity profile] soulstar.livejournal.com 2006-04-08 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, blimey - can you not see them now? I thought screening meant it could only been seen by the people in the thread. Maybe it's only by the owner of the journal. Duh.

Pants to it, then - I'll unscreen them. I probably am getting it mixed up with the Secret Santa ones. Nothing's been said about it being a secret, after all. And yeah, same here - I have no intention of not telling anybody at all what I'm up to, or it'll never get written! (I think with secret ones you can still tell anyone but the person you're writing for, anyway.)

[identity profile] clarey-h.livejournal.com 2006-04-08 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
It was just one post I couldn't see - I saw the one about screening fine. Yeah - it's not like we've told each other the exact details of out fics. I still want mine to be a surprise to everyone, but if I do get stuck with an idea I don't see why I can't discuss a bit or get some feedback without disclosing the whole thing!

Yes, same here - I could give you a plot outline, but I shan't... not yet, anyway ;-)

If you do want to do some idea bouncing, feel free to mail me if you don't want to do it on LJ. Or we could meet for a chat, or whatever :-)

[identity profile] clarey-h.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I'm using my on of my icons I've had sitting around for months now - how stupid of me not to realise I could have more that six!

Thanks - if I get stuck you might get comments from me asking you for help! I have to see how it goes, but it's a enough simple plot so far!

[identity profile] soulstar.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Bwahahah! Oh, I love that icon! :-D (I would offer to make you icons, but my icon making skills are not very... well, skillful! Not that you need the help. Hee!)

if I get stuck you might get comments from me asking you for help! I have to see how it goes, but it's a enough simple plot so far!

Likewise with my fic, if that's ok with you :-) It's quite likely I'll need checking for Northerness, too.

[identity profile] clarey-h.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
It's quite likely I'll need checking for Northerness, too.

Yep just ask. I think I've become a Northern consultant (I was helping someone else out with their fic today) and I'm not even from the right side of the Pennines!

[identity profile] soulstar.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, but it's an awful lot nearer than a lot of the rest of us! :-)

[identity profile] clarey-h.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Tee hee - I guess so. Who'd have thought being Northern would come in so useful?

Tell you what though - I know they are from Sheffield, but The Arctic Monkeys have really helped me when I write as Chris!

[identity profile] soulstar.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, really? Heehee! I think I've only seen one interview with them, so I can't remember what their accents are like - or do you mean their songs as well?

[identity profile] clarey-h.livejournal.com 2006-04-09 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah - it's the way they sing - the phrasing and the way they but words together. I've been listening to lots of Northern music like The Stone Roses, The Verve and Oasis just to get the phrasing right and to get a blokes voice in my head when writing. I mean I might make him out to be gay so I can do all fancying Sam stuff, but he still a bloke of course.

Of course he is! He's got a girlfriend, after all! *g*

[identity profile] clarey-h.livejournal.com 2006-04-10 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course he does - and he explains all about her in my fic!
