Happy New Year!
Just dropping by to say HAPPY NEW YEAR! I'm having a quiet one - I vegged in front of the telly, knitting and watching the Hootenanny. Yes, I know, aren't I boring? I think I did this last year too, actually. Clara and Chaz don't seem to be doing their New Year get-together now they have little Michael - maybe next year I'll do one. But this is nice and relaxing too :-)
Since I haven't posted since then, Christmas was good. I didn't get any decorations up here, but I have displayed my cards - thank you
tamaranth (and for the awesome CD! Hee!!),
train_in_vain,
urbanfae (and for the PRESSIES! *love*),
sanda56 and
elen_ancalima! The day itself was spent with Mum and Martin, and we had lots of lovely Christmassy food (I know I'm unnatural or something, but sprouts are my favourite, closely followed by parsnip. Yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmm!!!), and obviously opened our pressies. I got a new long coat - no surprise since I'd found and bought it myself, then taken it up to Mum for her to wrap and give me the money back for *g* - and various other bits and pieces (smellies, sweets, etc etc) from Mum, a special boxed edition of PotC 2 that included the dice game thingy as well as the 2 DVDs and some Dr Who Top Trumps from Martin (possibly something else as well, but I can't remember now cos I've left everything at Mum's until I have some actual space here), Serenity and Batman Begins DVDs from
urbanfae (*huuuuuugs* - Thank you, sweetie!!), and.... oh, other stuff that was all very cool! :-)
For given stuff, I got Mum the DVD of the March of the Penguins (which I quickly regretted, since she gets painfully high-pitched about penguins. *g* My eardrums may never recover. But hey, now I know for sure where my fangirl squealing was inherited from!), a CD of a group of girls called All Angels who I'd heard on the radio a little while ago and thought she'd like, one of Georgette Heyer's murder mystery books (which have been reprinted along with her regency romances, and which I didn't think Mum had read - and in fact, she hadn't even heard of them), a cow print mini hotwater bottle (mooo!), and lots of glitter! My brother got a Thundercats t-shirt, another t-shirt which pronounces him the "Evil Twin" (because people keep mistaking us for twins, and I couldn't possibly be the evil one! So I just had to get him that t-shirt when I saw it. He's now considering growing his goatee back...), the new Best of Aerosmith CD, and a pirate game for his X-box. Whee!
After all that, Mum watched the penguins while Martin x-boxed and I knitted, then totally fell asleep in front of the fire - oops! And in the evening we all watched Christmas telly: Doctor Who (which was awesome and I loved it so there ;-P), Vicar of Dibley, and Little Britain Abroad, yay! And that was pretty much it, really!
I've spent a few other days over at Mum's helping to eat up the Christmas food, and then it was Ally's party on Thursday. That was lots of fun. Ally's parents were down for a few days (they don't live down here any more), so a couple of their friends were there as well, plus me, my Mum, Clara and Chaz and baby Michael, and Clara's Dad. And Craig - Ally's other half, obviously. We played party games, which Ally had got prizes for and everything! We started with the post-it game - you know, the one where you have the name of a famous person stuck to your forehead and have to ask yes/no questions to figure out who it is. I managed to come second, but my Mum came last. Well, she'd never played before *g*. Funnily enough, both Clara and Chaz (who are married to each other) were George Bush. Heh. Although what I thought most interesting was who wrote which post-it - weirdly, all three older women had put a member of the royal family, both Clara and I put a sportsman (though neither of us watch sport much), and it was Ally's Dad and his friend who both put George Bush. Heh! But anyway. We also played Pass the Parcel (!) which I won (!!), and Consequences, which was very silly, and then had a Christmas Quiz - which I also won! My prize for that one was a car racing game (like a cheaper mini Scalectrix) so I've challenged Ally to a match when I have space to lay it out! And in between all that was party food. Yum!!
The less yay things have been that the piles of boxes that I have to squeeze around to get from bed to computer to sofa in this place are starting to get me down. And also, now my car has been fixed and sold, I no longer have the courtesy hire car either of course. It was kind of an anti-climax, since because of the accident it wasn't like I took Ginnycar to the dealership, signed her over, said goodbye and left here there - she was already gone as from a few weeks ago. It was all a bit "...oh. Now I no longer officially have a car. Huh." But on the bright side, Mum is going to come and help me get everything sorted out (or make a start!), and the kitchen and bathroom here are in perfectly usable states so it's not like the whole flat is a mess. And also, I survived perfectly well without a car of my own for the first 28 years of my life so I'm sure I can do it again! So, in all it's been a good last few days.
So, here's hoping that 2007 is a good one! (Must think up some resolutions! But for now, I'm off to bed.)
