The other day, my computer randomly decided to stop connecting to the internet. As far as I could tell, it wasn't detecting the modem properly, so I hoiked that out and stuck it in a different slot. Problem solved, hoorah! Only, then I realised that my sound had stopped working. Ah. This time, there was no apparent reason for it at all. I specifically need working sound and internet connection, because I'm about to start two courses - one Web Design, one Music Technology. Yesterday, therefore, my brother cannibalised my Dad's computer, appropriated his sound card, and brought it over here. Sound was restored - again, hoorah!

Then I tried to connect to the 'net. Oh dear. No joy. I've spent the last day and a half trying to fix the problem, but it's still not worked out. *sigh* I'm currently online on Mum's laptop. All my stuff is on my computer. Which does, at least, still have sound! Er, hoorah. :-/

I guess tomorrow evening I'll try borrowing a different modem from the bro, and see how that works out.

I really need a new computer. Right now. Argh!

Try telling it you'll remove its hard drive if it doesn't behave. Sometimes threats work. (Mine usually responds to Shakespearean insults.)

Ah, yeah.... only, I made the mistake of calling my hard drives Fred and George. I don't think threats would work to well on them! ;-)

Anyway, I *am* planning on removing them and installing them in a better system. Just as soon as I can afford it....

I shouldn't get behind on my courses, since I have Mum's laptop now. It's just going to be a pain in the arse switching between the two for various things. Still, I might be able to network them together, which should solve some of that problem. *crosses fingers*
