Step 1: Put your Media player on random.
Step 2: Post the first line(s) / your favourite lines of the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly. Guess as many as you can!
1.'Cause that's when those louses go back to their spouses. : Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend - Moulin Rouge Soundtrack (guessed by

4. Can't see you through your blinding words, eyes burning through the lies you stutter, can't breathe in case I take them in, then I'd lose my mind.
5. One more kiss tonight from some tall stable girl, she's like grace from the earth, you're all tuckered out and tame. (I think!)
6.Girls will be boys and boys will be girls, it's a mixed up, muddled up, shook up world. : Lola - The Raincoats (guessed by
angelchildr)
7. I am the singer, I'm the singer in the band. You're the loser, I wouldn't dismiss you out of hand.

angelchildr)
9. On the corner of Main Street, just trying to keep it in line.

18. Falling over backwards for you, falling over everybody else.
19. I've been told if you want to make it in this game, gotta have the luck, gotta have the look.
20. I'll play a stormer, yet in the corner I'll be grumpy on my own like I don't care. I'm a stormy little singer, an unstable little swinger, with a big rip in the arsehole of my flares.
And that actually came out with an interesting mix of things I regularly listen to, and stuff I'd forgotten I even had on here (or have recently downloaded from someone and not listened to properly yet, perhaps *g*)

Date: 2007-01-26 09:17 pm (UTC)6. Lola
8. Blower's Daughter?
15. With or Without You
16. I know this, but I can't remember right now :-(
17. Darnit, I know this one too. *SIGH*

Date: 2007-01-26 09:43 pm (UTC)Yep! Is that sarcastic surprise that you recognised it (*g*), or surprise that it's in my playlist?
Indeed - actually a cover by The Raincoats, not that that matters. Also, that isn't really my favourite line - it's really "I'm not the world's most masculine man, but I know what I am, and I'm glad I'm a man and so's Lola." But that sort of gives the song title away a bit ;-)
Yes! *hearts Damien Rice*
Yes indeedy :-) (Also a cover, by someone I've not heard of anywhere else... I must've downloaded it from my flist)
Yeah, you do. And I know this doesn't help, but it's another cover version. Only this time by a band I have all the albums of.
You're totally going to kick yourself ;-)

(no subject)
Date: 2007-01-28 05:54 pm (UTC)I do! I mention him quite a lot *g* He has the same name as Sann's brother, which amuses us. Me even more so, since my Mum's name is v similar to Sann's as well!

Date: 2007-01-28 05:56 pm (UTC)Oh, and after I read the comments here I realised I knew two songs after all :-p

My brother's three years younger than me, and I'm 24. :-p

((I *really* need a music icon. I honestly don't know why I don't have one!))
(no subject)
Date: 2007-01-28 06:01 pm (UTC)Yeah, I know, hehe :-p I just checked his album on cd-wow, not too expensive - if only I had more money :-)
HE PLAYS THE FIDDLE??? O_O I love fiddles. I don't know if I ever told you but I make music myself, as a hobby. Actually I play Filk, which is sort of - fandom-related music. Anyway, my friend plays the fiddle and she writes fiddle solos for my music and I LOVE fiddles - my mouth always just hangs open whenever I hear her play. /random
(... damn, is that all? I was hoping he'd be doing a bit more!)
Yeah :-/
Totally know what you mean about the icon... I *need* one.

Date: 2007-01-28 07:38 pm (UTC)Yeah, I didn't realise that til the show today. He was classically trained (just like me, only I was crap at the violin and moved on to woodwind which is more my thing) and then got into folk music in his late teens.
You 'play Filk'? Do you mean you compose fandom music? Tell me more!
(no subject)
Date: 2007-01-28 07:53 pm (UTC)Yes, I do :-p Sann actually has some of my mp3s, for some reason she likes to listen to me awkwardly strummingthe guitar. I got into filk about two years ago, and I've written a couple of songs. About a year ago I joined together with my friend Silke and now we're a duo, I write, play the guitar and sing and she plays the violin. We had a mini oncert at last year's FilkCon which was amazing - small crowd of course - 70 people perhaps - but very cool, still :-)

Date: 2007-01-28 10:28 pm (UTC)I'd love to hear those too, you know.
Are you sure? I tell you in advance, they're very, very basic recordings and I'm not the world's greatest guitar player :-) (Or singer)
And hey, if you're ever after another singer (or a woodwind player)
Oooooh whee! So you're a musician, too?
but if you're mixing stuff and need a track recorded, my brother has the relevant equipment.
Awesome! I might get back to you on that someday! :-) *hug*

Date: 2007-01-28 11:48 pm (UTC)Oh, wow! I've been skimming through, and these are brilliant. Now I really *really* want to hear the music that goes with them!
I'm positive :-) Also, if there are some you don't have recordings of, maybe you could send me the written music so I can read it / play it to myself?
Heh, right, did I not mention that? Yes, I'm what I spose you could call a lapsed musician: it was what I studied at uni, etc etc, and I taught for a while. But then what with one thing and another I ended up working in IT and since I'd likely have to travel to London for a singing teacher, it's all a bit impossible. Bah!
In terms of your compositions, though, should you fancy having a classically trained soprano squeaking out any high bits, or including a clarinet (I can transpose the music for you, I also used to do a lot of orchestration / arrangement) or recorder (of whatever pitch) / tin whistle / whatever... then you know where I am!

Also, if there are some you don't have recordings of, maybe you could send me the written music so I can read it / play it to myself?
I have basic recordings of most of my songs. The thing is - I can read notes, but I can't really write them. I tried it once, but I just - can't :-p Everything I know about music I taught me myself you know. (Partly because my parents thought I had no talent for music at all) Reading notes, playing the recorder, playing the guitar - I don't know much about music theory. My voice isn't trained, either. And since you've actually studied music (WOW btw) I'm now a little intimidated to send things over - you'll hear all the flaws instantly :-)
Sann says my songs are - catchy, I guess the reason for that is that I can't write music down. I have to play the tune and sing it until I've memorised it :-) So I guess calling my ickle songs "compositions" would be a bit of an overstatement :-) Thus I also can't write intros, outros, solos, harmony voices :-)

Oh, whee!!! Thank you!!! (I love Tin Whistles, I have - three of them, I think. But I'm not sure I play them properly :-p )

Date: 2007-01-27 12:08 am (UTC)Everything else is a loss to me, though. :-/ The only other one I recognized was "With Or Without You." (Though I only know the version by U2 there)
Once I'm home on my own computer, I'm gacking this.

Date: 2007-01-28 06:59 pm (UTC)(Er, also, yes, I only knew the U2 version of With or Without You. But that cover is a good one too.)

Date: 2007-01-27 12:35 am (UTC)16 - I KNOW this, GAH. *pouts*
17 - Behind Blue Eyes (ASH version by any chance? :D or is it The Who?)
(no subject)
Date: 2007-01-28 07:01 pm (UTC)#16 - Yes, you almost certainly do. Mwahahahaha!
#17 - Yep! It's The Who, but I have the ASH version too - it's off on a CD somewhere right now, though.

Date: 2007-01-27 11:01 am (UTC)12- Um, My Mom Has Gone to Iceland? I have no idea who did it, but it was in the mix you uploaded before Christmas.
17- The Who, Behind Blue Eyes.
(no subject)
Date: 2007-01-28 07:09 pm (UTC)#12 - No, but that's kind of weird: Mum's Gone to Iceland was in the mix, and that song wasn't, but they are both on a playlist of mine I listen to regularly and so sort of have a mental association between the two tracks even though they're not otherwise connected. Spooky! You've been IN MY BRANE!
#17 - Yup! :-) I love that song so much.
