Random Music meme
Jan. 26th, 2007 08:41 pmNicked from
itsabigrock and some other people.
Step 1: Put your Media player on random.
Step 2: Post the first line(s) / your favourite lines of the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song.
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly. Guess as many as you can!
( My 'top' 20 )
And that actually came out with an interesting mix of things I regularly listen to, and stuff I'd forgotten I even had on here (or have recently downloaded from someone and not listened to properly yet, perhaps *g*)

Because, why not? Triviality, yay!

Edit -> yeah, it would help if I'd read the meme properly first and posted with my favourite icon the first time round. Duh. Actually, that was really hard to choose... this is one of my faves, anyway. (Although the sheep one is as well, so.) I love this one because it's so very Xandermog. There I was trying to take a photo of him as he sat looking cute, and he had to get up and stick his face in the camera lens to try and figure out what that thing I was pointing at him was. Perfect icon fodder, really *g*.

Fa-la-la-la-laaaaa
Dec. 24th, 2006 04:52 pmThis is me procrastinating on the present-wrapping for no real reason. Um. No, still no idea why I'm not doing it, except that teh internets clearly exerts an irresistible pull over me, or something. I'll just stay here, then. *zombies*
Actually, I really should get on, because I'm thinking about imposing myself on Mum for dinner and TV this evening. Because due to there not being a proper TV aerial installed in this flat, the reception is completely shite. The terrestrial channels are snowy to the point of obscurity, and the freeview constantly pixellates and cuts out altogether. *pouty* All of which doesn't bode well for watching Torchwood tonight, never mind anything else. Also, means I'm not really going to be able to tape stuff over Christmas either. Feh. At least I'll be able to d/l some things.
But just because I can, I'm going to give myself one more time waster. Yes, it's that ( what's in your bag meme )
Alright, that's enough. Present wrapping time!! Off I go.

soulstar sent to me...

Twelve rps drumming
Eleven vampires piping
Ten books a-leaping
Nine alias singing
Eight movies a-reading
Seven spooks a-writing
Six elves a-knitting
Five shi-i-i-iny things
Four triangle series
Three jason isaacs
Two pretty boys
...and a spiderman in a snape/harry.
(I'm saying nothing, especially about that last one...)

Deck the Halls etc la la la
Dec. 11th, 2006 10:51 amHee - found this via
Sann (and god forbid I should let a meme pass me by!) - leave an imaginary virtual gift ( in my stocking )
In other news, don't forget to leave me your address for Christmas card sending. And if you haven't done so yet, yes, I really do want yours. Especially if you're thinking "oh, she's got my address already", because all that means is that I'm sitting here kicking myself and wishing I'd realised I was going to need my address book before I packed it in some inaccessible and anonymous box two months ago! I can start naming names, you know... ;-)
I have this whole pile of Christmas cards and no-one [/exaggeration] to send them to! You don't want me to waste them, do you? [Or put them away til next year *cough*] I'm sitting here with my pen poised! Willing to write them all day if it means I can put off having to actually go to the Post Office in this crappy weather today! ;-) Give me something to dooooo! [Is the unsubtle and kind of stupid attempt at guilt tripping working? Is it, is it, huh?]
Go on, just fill out the poll, and.... I'll shut up about it! There's something worth aiming for. *nod*

Stalker meme, tra-la
Dec. 9th, 2006 04:56 pmI nicked this from
angelchildr. Because it amuses me. Comment to this entry with the answers to the following (points given for correct and/or creative answers, at my discretion. Also, I've swapped the allocated points for first and last names, because if you don't know my first one then I ph34r (for) you, but my last one should be a tad less well known out tharr in interwebland):
( Who's a good little stalker, then? )
I'll reply with your score once it's marked. Comments screened. Some questions have multiple right answers.
80-85 Points — Stalker Extraordinaire!
70-79 Points — Hard-Working Stalker
40-69 Points — Decent Stalker
20-39 Points — Stalker-In-Training
00-19 Points — Brand New Stalker

OK, I am obviously running a little bit late, but it's not the end of the world. So! First of all, gimme your addresses so I can send out cards - and yes, even if I really really really should have your addy already, I need it again because my address book is packed who-knows-where and I had a little mishap with transferring my electronic one to my new Palm and only have about three people on that now! Hence:

And then there's that Holiday Wishlist meme. I did this the other year, so here we go again!
( The rules )
My Wishes:
1. The stuff on my Amazon Wishlist, obviously.
2. Icons. I've paid for extra icon space, and now I have icon-making block! So I would love icons that somehow reflect me, and/or my interests. Or, hey, if you want me to be more specific, then... SGA / McShep / David Hewlett ones would make me squee like an idiotic fangirl. Ooo, or a wallpaper on similar subjects would also be great.
3. To be able to work a permanent, full time job without it half killing me. And therefore to be earning properly again!! Or even better, to be able to do the self-employed and freelancing thing with the same result. And then I wouldn't have to sell my car. And stuff.
4. A header banner for my LJ (and some help on beating S2 into submission to put it up if you can manage it). Or hey, why not go the whole hog - a nice shinynew LJ redesign would be fabulous. Yes, I know that I really ought to be able to do this myself, but I just haven't got my head around it yet. So... *looks pathetic*
And while I'm on the subject... any LJ-type-things would indeed be appreciated!
5. Sparkly things!!! Um. But really. Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiny. Handmade / crafty shinythings are even better. Non-shiny crafty stuff also.
6. For a certain couple of people to move over here so we can have a fangirl house-share and terrify the neighbours on a weekly basis with the high pitch of our squealing. ;-) And when we've done that, we can take over the woooooooooooooooorld!! *melodrama, etc.*
7. Fictionwise gift certificate(s) to lou[at]freaky.nu . Mmmmm, ebooks. They're my addiction: instant, portable, actual published books!!!! (As opposed to fanfic, which I make my own ebooks of, hee!) It's like CRACK!
8. Music! Any mp3s or whatever that you think I might enjoy (and really, that can be anything from 12th to 21st century stuff) or that you want to educate me in *g*. Something that you really love, that perhaps you think I might not know.
9. A computer upgrade, again! And for my broadband to magically get activated in the new flat the same day that I move. Heh.
10. Uh. Peace on Earth and goodwill to all men? But really, seriously, I do wish for that. Peace, tolerance, co-operation, and all that, between all people. Corny, I know. But wouldn't it be nice? (In a general sense, obviously - it'd get dead boring without any differences of opinion in the world. *g* Debate is good. And after all, where would LJ be without kerfuffles to take part in, or mock?.... ;-) ) But hey, you know what you could do that would help with this one? Donate to Riverkids or buy something from their shop, or get something from Good Gifts.
My Contact Info:

Year end meme
Dec. 7th, 2006 11:25 amNabbing this from Ms
megolas. Because I can! And also because I was sort of curious to see how many months this year I did actually post. Anyway, it's the first line of the first post in each month this year, with the actual day of the month and occasional notes in italics. Oh, and some of these are actually flocked, but I've not discounted them for that.
( Here goes )
So that was my year, of sorts. I actually thought before I started that I had only posted in about 6 months - probably cos I've had a few periods of 6 weeks or so of no posting, but those have fallen so that I've posted towards the start of one month and then the end of the next, so there was only actually June when I posted nothing at all. But because it got me curious, I've just counted, and I've made 86 (or 87, including this one) posts in total so far this year. And if I keep going for the rest of the month like I have the last couple of days, I'll probably average out at two a week over the year.
And now I shall bore you with some stats, because like I said, I got curious:
Date created: 2001-12-14 13:35:03

I always forget it was that long ago that I set this up. I tend to have a vague notion in my head that it was a couple of years ago, even though obviously time is doing that thing it does. And moving, while the 'setting up LJ' event stays in the same place. I need to go back and tag my old entries, you know. In fact, I need to sort out my tags in general. Er, where need = geeky obsessive wish. Or something.

Everyblobby on my flist is doing this, so, wheeee bandwagon!
How many times has someone on your friends list posted about something and you were really confused, but you didn't want to ask because you knew you SHOULD know? How many times have you felt guilty asking a close LJ friend a question that should be obvious?
Well, here's your chance.
If you've missed a few things, missed an entry and are confused, ask me anything. Even something EXTREMELY basic, like where I live! I'm not allowed to get even slightly irritated at any of the questions - we've all missed things before.
(Or even if there's just something random you vaguely wondered about... or have burning curiosity about, whatever)
Having said that, the amount of RL I splurge on this thing, you probably do all know most things about my life anyway and have no desire whatsoever to learn any more. Which is fine too.

That twin thing again
Apr. 24th, 2006 03:19 pmIt was Mum's birthday yesterday. My Aunt Alex (Mum's sister) and Bob('s)-my-uncle (her husband) came down and we all had dinner, which was nice. We don't usually see them on birthdays, cos they're Jehovah's Witnesses. In fact, several of my family - my cousins on Dad's side who live locally - came round to see Mum, and brought flowers and cards and stuff. I'm very pleased with them! :-)
Anyway, when I got round to Mum's, she had a visitor - her friend Jenny. Martin was best friends with Jenny's son all through primary school, so as such she's known us for about 20 years now. I let myself in, walked into the living room to say hi, and...
Jenny: Goodness! You and Martin are so alike!
Mum: I still don't see it...
Jenny: He was down here just before you came in, and it's the way you stand and speak as well. But really - you could be twins!
Bzuh? I mean, maybe I should be used to this by now - it's been happening since I was 18 and he was 13, when the obvious age-gap between us must have .... stopped being obvious? But if it's that we appear to be about the same age, surely it would make more sense for people to assume that we're brother and sister who are a year apart in age, or something? Why always the twin thing? We get it more now than ever, together and separately. When M started his new job, he was "recognised" by a girl who I went to school with. I can't see where we look so apparantly alike, and neither can he, or Mum. Funny thing is, there are photos of Dad when he was about Martin's age now that could be M with a dark wig on, and photos of Mum when she was little that look exactly like me as a child. Come to think of it, when I was home from uni one time (so, when I was about 20), I opened the door to Jenny, and she did a double take, thinking Mum had gone blonde. But then again, I've had people tell me I looked just like Dad, too. It's all very strange!
Do I look that much like Martin, though? Perhaps I should stick up some photos and post a poll. Any excuse for some tickyboxes!
Plus, ( I'm just memetastic, recently )

1. Comment with your name and I'll respond with something random about you.
2. I'll tell you what song/movie/book/fictional character/SOMETHING reminds me of you.
3. I'll pick a flavor of pudding to wrestle with you in.
4. I'll say something that only makes sense to you and me. Well, maybe just me.
5. I'll tell you my favourite memory of you, should I have one yet.
6. I'll tell you what animal or plant you remind me of.
7. I'll ask you something that I've always wondered about you.
8. If I do this for you, you must post this on your journal. You MUST. It is written. Eh, I don't really care.
(I reserve the right to answer "Er, I dunno" should I get completely stuck)

Connection woes
Apr. 9th, 2006 05:11 pmMy broadband connection is down (some problem at my ISP's end that they're "working very hard on"), so I'm online via dial-up. Wah! Which means that I'm only zooming through, and now that I've grabbed my email, I'll be dropping back offline again. Am hoping my proper connection will be back soon! Grr.
I should probably use this offline time to finish editing my Life on Mars fic so that's it's finally post-able. But then other people will see it! Oh noes! Lalalala, avoidance! (Yes, I'll pull myself together and get it done in a minute. I'm just having a idiotic fiveyears minutes. Don't mind me.)
And because I've really done sod all today, have a meme:
Swiped from
kabukivice
Which of my icons:
1. is your favorite and why?
2. is your least favorite and why?
3. would you like some context for?
4. have you never noticed I even had before?
5. do you most associate with me?
... and I guess that's all from Post Every Day Week. It was worryingly easy to post random crap every day! I might even keep it up without having the meme as an excuse. Well, maybe. But I think I probably will start posting more frequently again. It's been fun! :-) Especially seeing regular posts from the others on my flist who were doing it too.

Birthday meme, and Done on Saturday
Apr. 8th, 2006 04:24 pm( That birth date meme )
Meanwhile, today I have done a lot of crawling about on the floor, untangling cables, rearranging extension plugs, dusting and hoovering a la Heiniken (reaching parts that other... yeah, bad pun), and then finally getting it all sorted out and installing my USB hub. So hoorah, now I can have both Sam and Gene the Palms hooked up at once, and my printer is now connected via USB instead of parallel via the scanner. Which leaves me a port spare - and easily accessible, woohoo - for the pen drive or tinycrapdigicam, or whatever I need it for. Much better :-)
So I reckon that excuses me from doing anything else for the rest of the day. I'm off to Mum's in an hour for dinner, anyway.

Clever little meme
Apr. 5th, 2006 07:00 pmWell, look at that: apparently those memes can be quite accurate at times. Who'd'a thunk?
Although, was surprised the SAD thing came out quite so high. I had been wondering about it, though (as had Mum), considering the way my mood has gone extra-wonky from around October for the last four years at least. I think it's been better this year, being in this flat with the enormous windows and great light - especially in the bedroom. I know I was here last year too, but it can't really be counted because I sort of didn't open the curtains all winter.
It is sort of funny, mind you, that I've apparently got a need for sunlight, when I've been just about the most sun-avoiding person I know for my whole life. It burrrrrrrrrrrns!

Joining Post Every Day Week
Apr. 3rd, 2006 05:12 pmMs
badgermonkey has decreed this week to be Post Every Day Week:
Are you a sporadic poster? Do you let the gaps between posts get so long that you suddenly feel the pressure to write something unbelievably witty and/or entertaining when you do post? Do you enjoy getting comments when you post, and feel secretly kind of jealous of the people who get comments left for them every! day!? Do you feel likeyes, the internet really could do with more information on the minutae of my life?
Then Post Every Day Week is for you! Postmeaningful, insightful, philosophical comments. If you want. Postrandom pieces of fic you thought up in your sleep ("What if I wrote aHetty Wainthropp/Doctor Who crossover where Geoffrey and Rose swappedplaces?"). Post about what you had for breakfast (Crunchy NutCornflakes and the last fruit-on-the-bottom fromage frais). But just post, you non-posting losers! (Myself included).
So I figured, what the hell? Maybe my posting gaps aren't as ginormous as they once were (four! months!), but I don't post every day, that's for certain. So now, hahaha, I shall. Prepare to be very very bored.
So, um... today.... I've checked my email, and started to read my flist. And that's about it. Woo. No, that's not true: I've been doing spring-cleaning type stuff mostly. And, eek, I've just seen the time! Got to run to the postbox! Aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.........
